Milan fashion week has begun and this weekend we were able to take a look at several noteworthy presentations.
Today we focus on the Prada Menswear Spring Summer 2022 collection because it fully represents the irrepressible desire for freedom and rebirth that we all have.

“A sense of utopia, of ideal, of hope, of positivity. Exposing yourself to nature, going to the beach, it’s freedom. It’s utopian. This is really a primary need – an intellectual need, too”, Prada’s own creative co-director Miuccia Prada commented before the screening of the video that presented the collection.

The Miuccia Prada/Raf Simons duo staged a transition that is a metaphor for the times in which we live and the rediscovery of the purest of feelings: “What this collection and this fashion show want to capture is the joy of the everyday, the idea that living your life can be an exhilarating experience. From a simple thing can spring immense joy: when times get complicated, we seek essential and direct pleasures: innocence”.
hese are the words of Miuccia who admits that she has been focusing on this aspect for some time now, in contrast to a “world that is so complicated in which it is easy to lose sight of the essence of human life”.

The video – made by studio AMO – of Prada’s SS22 menswear collection, shot between Milan, at Fondazione Prada, and the beach of Capo Carbonara in Sardinia, opens with the models walking through a red tunnel that looks like a maze, accompanied by the perfect soundtrack of plastkman aka Richie Hawtin.

The anguish deriving from the hypnotic gait of the models is definitively dissolved by the exit from the tunnel that smells of regained freedom. The beach, the clear sea, an uncontaminated nature that finally reunites us with the simplicity and innocence that are two recurring elements of this presentation.

Prada also wanted to emphasize its position towards the preservation of the seas through the video. In fact, the Italian fashion house supports the MEDSEA Foundation, which aims to restore marine ecosystems by reforesting the Posidonia Oceanica prairies – a marine plant endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, which provides an important habitat for marine species and plays a crucial role in absorbing CO2 to help mitigate climate change – right inside the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area.

The collection is a triumph of Prada-ness: shirts and shorts that dominate together with the bucket hat with back pocket, tank tops with defined cuts, prints that recall the ’70s and bright colors mixed with black typical of Prada’s tailoring.
