While I was living in Bologna in 2015, I took part to roBOt VIIIedition held in Fiera area, inside a huge cool space, a bit dispersive. The line-up was equally interesting and it was a crazy-neverending evening, so much so that together with my “war-mates” we thought about to come back again in the future.
And here we are at the X edition, for which we’ve been preparing with a super playlist, I understand from the beginning that there was a real leap in quality regarding festival organization: I find myself in a beautiful location, Ex Gam, which has been set up to give the participants a total experience, made of lights, colors, temporary installations, and evocative atmospheres. In one of the rooms there is also a workshop on techno music: is the book presentation “Mondo Techno Remix” by Andrea Benedetti and I like it, because more than the real fun, it’s important to keep up the event soul and its underground culture, as we know, Bologna is still a point of reference for this.
The afternoon started with Don Carlo’s DJ set on the terrace, even though I immediately identified my favourite place, Magenta Room, where I was captured by Luca Maria Baldini, who associated his sound with movies from Bologna Film Library for a complete show. After eating a burger at Va Gina kiosk was the turn of velvet voice Hu, an artist who really deserves more space because Italy is also made of these musical realities that deserve to be known. The evening continues and I know a bit ‘of people who come from different regions, the mood that you breathe is electric but also very contemplative, depends on which room you want to enter. And adrenaline is certainly not lacking with the Neon Chambers, which are one of my favourite groups, which is why I was not so much sober. The evening ends great at Link, with Trentemøller I had already heard from IIX edition, whose name is a guarantee.
I go back exhausted but happy, with the lights in mind, the atmosphere, and the colors that this beautiful festival gave me: it happens at roBOt, while you were sleeping.
