The crystallization of salt is the process through which a separation between a liquid and a solid part takes place. This is what happens in all the salt pans in the world and then allows us to obtain the salt crystals that, once processed, end up directly in our kitchens. It was precisely this process that inspired architect Oliver Thomas from the Pixel studio for his Salt Chapel. 

It is the project of a pavilion that the architect presented for a competition organized by Outsider magazine. Participants in the competition were asked to design a structure capable of transforming and giving new life to ruin in a salt pan in Slovenia, in the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park. 

The Salt Chapel by Oliver Thomas presents a structure made of wooden slats that embraces the remains of the old building, also taking its shape. The main feature is the chosen material, which makes the pavilion look almost like a vision: the light penetrating between the strips gives the Salt Chapel a ghostly, crumbling appearance.  

Inside the structure you can find a work that represents the process of crystallization of salt, thus celebrating the entire heritage of that specific area of Slovenia.
