Among Japanese prints, even in ancient ones, it is not difficult to find in the variety of subjects and everyday scenes, also representations of sex scenes, between humans but also with the more classic octopus, object of metaphysical erotic fantasies.
With that metaphysical taste and inspirations to Japanese iconography, to the representation of naked powder-colored bodies and inky black spots of hair, is also inspired the production of the artist Sawako Kabuki. Graduated as Graphic Design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, Kabuki began working for a production company of porn videos, aspect that must have helped her to insist on experimenting with the human body, in her works now intended as a simple decorative element.

Sawako Kabuki’s naked bodies fill the illustrations with their repetitiveness, nothing distinguishes them from each other, the body is the baroque miniature in absurd compositions, in which a salmon soup is accompanied by hundreds of small figures, while others are about to be swallowed just before being taken by the sticks.
The chromatic element plays a strong role, in particular red, a recurring motif of the drawings, but also the black of the hair or the different shades of blue, from the palest blue to Prussian blue, that of the Japanese xylographic tradition.
There are many publications and awards in the field of animation in the career of Sawako Kabuki. You can discover some of them on Instagram and on the official website of the artist.
