“Soviet Asia” is a book entirely dedicated to Soviet modernist architecture in Central Asia. The book is the result of a long and hard work by the amazing photographers Roberto Conte and Stefano Perego, who travel the world looking for these stunning architectures.
Last year they went all around Central Asia to make this publication. Published by FUEL in April 2019, “Soviet Asia” is the result of a big journey of Roberto and Stefano around the ex-Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, documenting buildings constructed between the 1950s and URSS’end.
Incredible images of understimated or completely unknown architecture: museums, residential buildings, universities, circuses, ceremonial palaces. All in an eclectic style made by Soviet elements of architecture mixed with Islamic and Persian one, like concrete buildings with colored tiles and mosaics, a union between brutalism and oriental elements.
