“These things happen once in a lifetime, right?”
This was Spike Lee‘s reaction when he was asked to direct a film-concert dedicated to American Utopia, David Byrne‘s latest work, which will debut on HBO before the end of this year.

Let’s take a step back, for those who don’t know it American Utopia is a studio solo album by American rock musician David Byrne, released on March 9, 2018, and was staged from October 2019 until February 16, 2020 in the spaces of the Hudson Theatre.

The show that is expected to be a real show, with a valuable setlist of songs extracted from the entire catalog of the great Byrne, including Talking Heads. Spike Lee used 11 operators, so that all parts of the production could be perfectly captured, without leaving out the slightest detail.
In the show there’s also a cover of Janelle Monàe‘s Hell You Talmbout, in which Byrne and the musicians list the names of the African Americans unjustly killed over the years, repeating: “say their name“.

Waiting to find out what Spike Lee has reserved for us we just have to listen to the beautiful album recorded directly from Broadway.
