Nightlife is probably one of the most photographed subjects in the world. Every weekend, thousands of images capture raves, clubs, and sweat-soaked bodies, yet almost all of them end up looking the same.
Spyros Rennt, however, has managed to do something different: he uses the night not as a backdrop, but as a place where a community takes shape, creating a genuine sense of belonging.
Born in Greece and adopted by Berlin, Rennt has transformed years of parties, after-hours, darkrooms, and shared apartments into a visual archive of contemporary European queer culture. His photographs never feel staged because they are too close, too honest, too deeply involved. It feels as though the camera belongs to the room just as much as the people inhabiting it.

Harsh flash straight to the face, glistening skin, cigarettes, tattoos, hands reaching for one another, and bodies intertwining. At first glance, these images seem to be about sex. In reality, they are about trust. Rennt photographs almost exclusively people with whom he shares time, friendships, and relationships. It is precisely this closeness that removes any sense of voyeurism. The viewer is not peeking into a private scene—they have the feeling of having been invited inside.
The comparison to Nan Goldin is inevitable, but it stops at intimacy. Goldin documented a generation marked by AIDS, addiction, and loss. Rennt photographs a different community, one that has grown up with the possibility of reinventing identity, desire, and family. His books—Intertwined, Lust Surrender, and Corporeal—do not celebrate excess, but rather the freedom to exist without having to explain who you are.

Perhaps this is why his images withstand the endless scroll. At a time when club photography is increasingly produced as content, Spyros Rennt continues to build memory. Because when the lights come on and the music stops, what remains is not the party. It is the people who made it possible.
