Some people like to paint on canvas, others on swimming pools. No, we’re not joking, we’re talking about Studio Proba, founded in 2013 by Alex Proba in New York.

Alex moved permanently to America in 2011, from there everything simply changed, she was an art director at Kickstarter and recently also at Nike.
She still has a very long career ahead of her, but we can say that she has already achieved great things, she is also one of the top 20 designers under 30 according to Print Magazine.

We decided to talk about her latest work and in particular about her colors and patterns used on the external spaces of a public swimming pool for a project curated by K&CO and Pliskin Architecture.

Painted during 2020, the mural aims to convey a message of hope in the midst of a global pandemic, through its bright colors and more.

Everything was done strictly by hand, a project that took hours and hours of work, kneeling under the high temperatures of Manhattan, taking care of every single detail.

The result is an explosion of colorful curvilinear shapes, a kaleidoscopic artwork described by the artist as: “a huge party”.
