The final of the NLF, the 55th edition of the Super Bowl, was held yesterday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers triumphed 31-9 over the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Super Bowl is not only one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, but also one of the most popular media events for advertising fans. Here, the biggest American companies monopolise the advertising slots for a few seconds and compete with each other in a creative battle.
This year’s advertising scene looked a little different from previous years because it excluded big brands like Budweiser and Pepsi Coke. But we can’t complain after all, the ads were still plentiful, creative and fun.
Here are some of the best.
M&M’S – “Come Together”
The spot stars Golden Globe-nominated Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy. Fresh from a stellar performance on Saturday Night Live, he brings his irrepressible charm to this ad that focuses on the power of apology.
Cadillac – “ScissorHandsFree”
Did you know that Edward Scissorhands has a son named Edgar? Neither did we, but this Cadillac ad tells us. In this ad, an iconic Timothée Chalemet, alongside a wonderful Winona Ryder, tell us about the new features of the Cadillac Super Cruise.
Pringles – “Flavor Stacking Space Return”
In this Pringles adv, NASA is too busy finding the best flavour combinations among the crisps to save a crew of astronauts stranded in the middle of the sea.
Toyota – “Jessica Long’s Story”
Ahead of the upcoming Olympics, Toyota shares the emotional story of Jessica Long, a Paralympic swimmer.
Amazon – “Alexa’s Body”
Amazon has brought many Alexa devices to market over the years, all with different looks. This year’s Super Bowl commercial asks the question, “What would be the ideal body for Alexa?” The answer is Michael B. Jordan, Creed, star of Black Panther.
Cheetos – “It Wasn’t Me”
Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher and Shaggy join forces in the Cheetos ad in a musical mash-up spot to the tune of the 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me”.
Doritos – “Flat Mattehw”
Only a packet of Doritos 3D crisps manages to restore a somewhat gaunt Matthew McConaughey to normal form.
Indeed – “The Rising”
In its first Super Bowl spot, job site Indeed takes viewers through the long and difficult emotional process behind getting a job.
Huggies – “Welcome to the World, Baby”
Huggies took a clever approach and instead of pre-recording the commercial, filmed the babies born on 7 February 2021 and thus welcomed them into the world.
