Studio Heatherwick has released the first mock-ups of its latest project “The Cove”, that involves the redevelopment of piers 30-32 in the port of San Francisco, which were burned about 36 years ago.

The site, currently used as a parking lot, would be transformed into something unique, redesigned to be more accessible and become a new landmark in the American city.

The studio led by Thomas Heatherwick has thought of a horseshoe structure that will host various activities are in fact planned about 26 pavilions. All accompanied by a multifunctional central square, able to transform itself according to the various events it will host.

The project could not but have a green soul, now an essential detail of every new structure. The roof will have photovoltaic panels to be completely autonomous, all the sheds will be made of wood to reduce the environmental impact.

But still to take a ride in “The Cove” we would have to wait a long time. If the plans are approved and the work will begin in a relatively short time, the completion of the project is scheduled for 2026.
