It is fun to see how an artist can imagine the end of the world. Travis Lampe for example imagines it as a dark, volcanic landscape with fire and lava-red skies, lived with the utmost tranquility by cute devilish creatures walking around springing on their own slender legs.
The Kansas-born artist’s illustrations are a prediction of the future, very negative perhaps, but still cool.

The characters depicted by Travis Lampe look like toy puppets, and not surprisingly he makes toy art himself. The subjects are inspired by early 20th century cartoon aesthetics, particularly Betty Boop or Steamboat Willie films starring Mickey Mouse from 1928.
Since about 2007 Travis Lampe has been bringing his characters to exhibitions around the world, the latest being “All Signs Point to No” (Los Angeles) and opening Aug. 6, with the artist’s acrylics and sculptures taking center stage.
Lampe also revealed that his works are inspired by fortune-telling and its iconography, mystical divination and an idea he has had for some time. Among the most interesting pieces is ‘The Fool,’ a rubbery character ready to fall into a ravine and considered by the artist himself to be one of his best works, as well as the dark and gloomy settings, in which few sources of light such as a fire or the eyes of the characters define the atmosphere and pictorial style.
