UNDERCOVER unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, called “ONCE IN A LIFETIME”, with a lookbook that redefines and reinterprets the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
The founder and mastermind behind the Japanese brand, Jun Takahashi, has focused his work on designs that don’t appear “excessively decorative, but deeply rooted in everyday life”, as he put it on the sidelines of the presentation.
The collection includes classic silhouettes of traditional Japanese clothing but all reimagined through the contemporary eye that sets UNDERCOVER and Takahashi apart.
Coats that become robes and flip-flops reinterpreted as geta – the traditional Japanese sandals halfway between a pair of clogs and the classic flip-flops with wooden soles – make up UNDERCOVER’s SS22 as well as a series of bucket hats, fisherman coats in transparent material, dresses and tailored options with a relaxed fit that evoke the serenity and tranquility that characterizes the Japanese tea ceremony.
“For this collection, I worked in a great environment: a brand new studio located in a mountain where I can walk down to the beach and cherish the ordinary”, Takashashi added.
