Let’s face it, when we hear about sculpture and busts we immediately think of something ancient, far away and in fact many times it is so, but this is not the case with Christina West and her Unmet series.
Christina was born in Atlanta and has always loved creating objects, a passion that led her to specialize in sculpture. Her human figures and busts certainly take inspiration from classical art, but with an extra feature. Her works lack sections as if they were cut, thus discovering colored spots inside them. Attention is no longer focused on the expression of faces, on physical characteristics, but on missing parts.
Christina’s work is a careful investigation into the complexity of the individual’s interiority. It can be considered revolutionary, an art like sculpture, which focuses entirely on external beauty, here it focuses on what is usually not taken into consideration.
