To announce their collaboration with the famous watch brand G-SHOCK, Gorillaz, could only do it via the web, being the most famous virtual band in the world, through a video, or rather three.
Gorillaz x G-Shock – Mission M101 is the first of three episodes that aim to present through a story, the four watches that make up the collection. Four as the characters of the band.
The video begins with Mr. Ibe, the creator of G-SHOCK, who for the 35th anniversary of the brand has in mind an impossible mission, bring his watches into space and to achieve the goal decides to recruit Gorillaz. 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russell Hobbs immediately get into their supercar and depart for unexplored galaxies.
A week ago we went to London for the launch event of the collection at the G-SHOCK store in Carnaby Street where was presented the collection that includes three variants of the classic DW5600 model “The Origin” that reflect respectively the characteristics of 2D, Murdoc Niccals and Noodle. To the drummer, Russel Hobbs was dedicated the more resistant GX56 “The King”, also with a unique design that reflects the character.
In addition to the watches, the second episode of the Mission 101 was also unveiled. Our four heroes-musicians finally arrive on a planet populated by aliens and, after a few small obstacles, typical of an impossible mission, the Gorillaz manage to make even extra-terrestrials love the clocks. What really proves to be problematic is the return to Earth, which took place with a disastrous landing inside the London store, where we found a real-size reproduction of the supercar used by the virtual band.
For the launch in stores and online of Gorillaz x G-SHOCK models, which reinterpret two great classics, there are two dates: November 15 for the watches of Murdoc Niccals and 2D and December 15 for those of Russell and Noodle.
We must also wait for the release of the third and final episode scheduled for mid-December, meanwhile, we can look for some clues in the previous two.
