Virgil Abloh presents Twentythirtyfive and the house of the future at Vitra Campus

The African-American designer Virgil Abloh is unstoppable, and with every project he manages to make the most of it, gathering the approval of both fans and critics.

The latter sees him as a furniture designer, with a work that combines past, present, and future. In fact, a few days ago Virgil presented, on the occasion of the traditional Vitra Campus Summer Party, his idea of what would be the home of a teenager today in 2035.

For the installation, which took place inside Zaha Hadid’s Fire Station, the designer was inspired by two emblematic figures from the world of architecture and industrial design, the French Jean Prouvé and the two American spouses and designers Charles and Ray Eames. Virgil Abloh’s project is divided into two parts, one called “Past/Present” where we see objects that will form the background and future memories of the hypothetical tenant, the other is “Future”, a place and time in which the memories of the past have evolved and their presence remains latent.

It is in this second area that we find the three pieces of the new limited edition collection signed by Virgil Abloh: Twentythirtyfive. The line is composed of Petite Potence, a wall lamp that recalls that of 1942 designed by Prouvé, a new version of the Antony chair – again by the French designer – in which the wooden seat has been replaced by a plexiglass one and, last but not least, the Ceramic Block.

This piece has literally made the public crazy, in practice it consists of a ceramic brick painted in a bright shade of orange, the same color that we also find in the lamp and chair, which can be simply displayed, or used as a container.

The entire installation will remain on display at the Vitra Campus until July 31, when it will be moved to the New York store.
