Tyler Mitchell’s nostalgia for Wales Bonner and adidas Originals

British designer Grace Wales Bonner and adidas Originals present the latest release of their collaboration for this FW21.
This capsule is part of Bonner’s “Black Sunlight” collection and completes a trilogy that began with the “Lovers Rock” collection from FW20 and “Essence” from SS21.
The whole collection is inspired by the 80s in which Bonner reinterprets the classics of the adidas archive in a new key thanks to her inimitable vision.
Grace Wales Bonner’s work addresses issues of identity, sexuality and race through designs that delicately blend multiculturalism with a unique sense of subjectivity.

T-shirts, plush trackpants, anoraks and more, all enriched with graphics that recall the college aesthetic. The capsule also includes an unforgettable silhouette from the adidas archive, the Japan. The WB Japan will be available in two colorways: “Dark Marine/Easy Yellow/Cream  White” and “Hazy Yellow/Brown/Dark Brown”.

The campaign images were entrusted to Brooklyn-born American photographer Tyler Mitchell. His social commitment, cutting edge and utopian vision have led him to become one of the most influential and decisive black photographers of the moment. An exploration and (successful) attempt to reclaim black culture through his work as a fashion photographer. His inspirations come from the work of Ryan McGinley and Larry Clark.
n the photos taken for the capsule of Wales Bonner and adidas Originals, the nostalgia for the carefree moments of our childhood, a desire for freedom and serenity shines through.

The adidas Originals by Wales Bonner FW21 collection will be released on November 16 while the Japan WBs are expected to be released in early 2022.
