In 2021 Acne Studios relaunched its magazine dedicated to culture and design, Acne Paper, proposing a very high level from an editorial point of view as well.
Yesterday, the 18th issue came out, titled “House of Acne Paper”, structured as an imaginary house full of special and unique objects that, thanks precisely to the framing of the magazine, represents a splendid tour inside this house.
The inspirations behind “House of Acne Paper” are to be found in opera houses around the world and in the ballrooms of New York City, where talent and beauty dominate the scene.
The 504-page house/book consists of nine rooms and a garden, all of which are filled with a total of no less than 151 objects-from tables by Faye Toogood and Rick Owens, to paintings by Jacques-Émile Blanche and Chris Ofili, to cutlery by Salvador Dali, to an 18-karat gold toilet by Maurizio Cattelan.
In each space of the house then, one can witness a new and engaging dialogue: perfume artist Sissel Tolaas talking with Jad Salfiti in the bathroom, author and artist Yasmine Seale disquisitioning with Natasha Fraser in the attic, and cake artist Amy Yip instead chatting with Tilly Macalister-Smith in the kitchen, just to name a few examples, in a kind of informal interview about art, design, architecture, literature, etc.
A surreal and dreamlike work, but one that is at the same time extremely concrete, demonstrating for the umpteenth time the quality of Acne Studios’ ideas and implementation of them.
