Macchine Scotchate is the Instagram profile chosen this week for All for the Gram. The concept is straightforward, showing all the limitations of fine automotive engineering, but above all explaining how to solve them with a simple tool: the roll of scotch tape.
There are accidents that fortunately don’t cause too much damage, that make you think you can postpone the appointment with the mechanic, and in the meantime find a home-made solution, making sure you don’t lose any parts along the way. A roll of scotch tape can help even if only to hold the car’s mirror in place, as far as one can judge from the profile the part is repeatedly fixed with insulating tape and film.

There are tapes that can hold entire car bonnets together and some more design-conscious owners who choose scotch tape in the same colour as the bodywork.
With a bit of imagination, you might even think that tapes are the latest work of Maurizio Cattelan, who has chosen to stop taping a banana to the wall as in his Comedian work and instead focus on four wheels.
If your adhesive tapes are as personalised as the Rinascente tape used to hold a window in place, then you might want to think about postponing that appointment with the mechanic for a few more days.
