Andrea Lazzari, a young photographer, producer, and director at Chaawpi, has always had a passion for art and visual storytelling. His career began to take shape when he moved to Arona, by Lake Maggiore, and later to Milan, where he graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 2017. Lazzari focused his studies on New Technologies in Art, exploring the evolution of documentaries in the digital age and forging a path that connects traditional socio-cultural documentaries with new multimedia forms. This solid theoretical and practical foundation deeply influenced his work as a photographer, where reality and culture intertwine in images rich with meaning. Over the years, he developed a deep sensitivity to socio-cultural issues, documenting the lives of communities and peoples around the world.

During a trip to Los Angeles with artist Alvaanq, Andrea Lazzari met Casimir Spaulding, known as Colourful Mula, a visual artist and creative director from New York, and had the opportunity to photograph him during a day they spent together. Spaulding, known for his artistic collaborations with rapper Chief Keef and his iconic work for the Glo Gang label, is a central figure in the contemporary American creative scene.

The Colourful Mula photoshoot – produced by Waamoz – was a unique experience for Andrea, who managed to capture the essence of the artist and his creative world. The meeting between the Italian photographer and the New York artist took place at the back of the Glo Gang store, located at 7918 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. That seemingly ordinary space soon revealed itself as a vibrant microcosm of colors and creativity.

In the back of the store, where several canvases made with spray paint were stacked, the photographer found himself surrounded by an explosion of colors. The space, filled with bold works, transported anyone who entered it into a parallel universe—a visually powerful world that reflected both human culture and complexity, specifically American culture. The Sun, a central metaphor in these works, became the symbol of every facet of the human experience, filtering through the colorful walls and illuminating both Casimir’s work and Lazzari’s photographs. Andrea was able to fully immerse himself in the context he was photographing, blending his experience as a documentarian with that of a photographer.
