In London, inside the historic Battersea Power Station, Apple has opened Apple Music Hall, a new space dedicated to live music and designed to bring artists and audiences closer together through intimate performances and high-level productions. The venue, with a capacity of 600 people, was created to combine the intimate scale of a club with the technological possibilities of a space also built for recording, broadcast and digital content.

The project was developed by the Apple Places team, led by Kristina Raspe, Vice President of Apple Places. The architecture starts from the industrial history of Battersea Power Station and reinterprets it through Apple’s design language: exposed brick, fluted arches, bronze balconies and a large glass wall engage in dialogue with the building’s historic structure. Raspe explained that the goal was to combine the Power Station’s architectural heritage with the distinctive elements of Apple design and with advanced technology.

At the centre of the space is a 38-foot-wide modular stage, which can be configured for front-facing concerts or for in-the-round performances. The audience can also be arranged standing, seated or on tiered seating, allowing the room to be adapted to different types of shows.

Technology is an integral part of the project. A system made up of 48 speakers distributed throughout the room enables the use of Spatial Audio, while the recording, multi-camera video and broadcast infrastructure make it possible to turn a live performance into content reaching a global audience as well.

More than a simple concert hall, Apple Music Hall thus presents itself as a hybrid space, where architecture, music and technology coexist within the same environment. A new physical presence for Apple in the world of live music, built right inside one of London’s most recognisable buildings.
