The legacy of Virgil Abloh in the new CD by Bakar

The timeless and multifaceted legacy of Virgil Abloh continues to surprise after his untimely death last November.
This time to contribute to the memory of the American designer is Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr, better known as Bakar, a young songwriter – known for his experimental indie rock style – and model from London who made his solo debut in 2018 with the mixtape Badkid, and then released the extended play Will You Be My Yellow? in September 2019. Instead, Bakar released his debut album Nobody’s Home on February 25.

After his collaboration with Stüssy along with Bone Soda, a few days ago Bakar shared the CD images of the album made in a limited edition of only 500 copies.

Designed entirely by Virgil Abloh, the Nobody’s Home CD will be released on April 8 and all proceeds from its sale will be donated to Abloh’s “POST MODERN” scholarship fund in support of black, African-American and African-origin students. The foundation aims to continue to promote equity and inclusion in the fashion industry, a cause that Virgil has always felt is his own and has consistently promoted.

The relationship between Bakar and Virgil Abloh was very close indeed. They both shared similar life and work experiences being both two black creatives who in their respective areas of expertise set absolute standards, becoming an inspiration to millions of people around the world.

Bakar also walked the runway for Virgil, both in Louis Vuitton’s debut show and in the last show curated by Abloh for the French fashion house.

“A lot of the time we don’t output, there’s a fear thereof not producing perfection. But that’s not what it’s about really. I think that’s what Virgil showed. That there’s so much more beauty in the imperfection along the way. And to show those imperfections. And people really actually warm to those imperfections”, Bakar said, recalling the influence and support he received from Abloh.

You can pre-order the Nobody’s Home CD here which will be released on April 8.
