At the Pick Your Mistery event, organised by Triennale Milano and adidas Originals on 4 October, talk host Ersilia Vaudo, speaking about the mysteries of the universe and the earth, told a very curious truth. The ESA Chief Diversity Officer at the European Space Agency, i.e. one of the people with the best knowledge of space and how it works, pointed out that man knows more about the surface of Mars than the ocean floor. This not only shows how fascinating the underwater world is, but also how difficult it is to penetrate into it, even more so to take pictures that bear witness to what is indeed a mysterious world.
This is why The Ocean Photographer of the Year photo competition is one of the most fascinating of those held each year, and the 2022 winners were announced just a few days ago.

There were nine categories in the competition, whose photos were examined by six judges, who awarded the prize to the photograph of Frenchman Ben Thouard, who in the sea of French Polynesia managed to capture from underwater the body of a surfer swept away by a big wave. Second place went to Katherine Lu‘s photo of an octopus, while third place went to Brook Peterson, who photographed a shoal of fish in Los Angeles arranged to form what looked like a human face.
On the Instagram account of The Ocean Photographer of the Year you can see other incredible shots taken below the ocean level, mysterious and from a world fortunately yet to be truly known.
