LOMA and SOLANA: a new essential chapter for Birkenstock

BIRKENSTOCK continues to work on what it does best: taking an icon and evolving it without distorting its essence. With LOMA and SOLANA, the German brand opens a new chapter that starts from its most recognizable element, the footbed, to build two contemporary, essential and deeply functional silhouettes.

It is not a revolution, but a considered update. LOMA and SOLANA are born as a natural extension of the BIRKENSTOCK archive, reworking shapes already embedded in the brand’s culture through a more current language, influenced by architecture and an increasingly clean aesthetic.

LOMA is the reinterpretation of the closed-toe clog, a style BIRKENSTOCK helped define back in the 1970s with the Boston model. Here, however, the construction becomes sharper: essential lines, a suede upper and a hook-and-loop closure replacing the classic buckle. The result is a shoe that keeps its utilitarian soul but gains immediacy and practicality, designed to be worn effortlessly while maintaining a strong visual identity.

SOLANA moves in a different register, lighter but no less rigorous. It is a slide that works with materials and proportions to convey an idea of sophisticated, almost silent comfort. Here too, the hook-and-loop closure returns, becoming both a distinctive and functional element, helping define a more minimal and contemporary aesthetic compared to the brand’s traditional silhouettes.

The fixed point remains the anatomical footbed, the true heart of the project. That is where everything starts: support, durability and that feeling of natural walking that has defined BIRKENSTOCK’s identity for decades. Around it, everything else changes, but never loses sight of function.

Telling the story of this evolution is the Hook & Loop campaign, set in a music studio in Cape Town. A hybrid space, where life and work blend together, perfectly reflecting the way we live with objects today: less formal, more fluid, always present. The shoes thus become part of a creative everyday life, tools rather than accessories, capable of accompanying different rhythms without changing language.

With LOMA and SOLANA, BIRKENSTOCK updates its codes, making them legible for a new generation without losing coherence.
