In line with the UN‘s goal of achieving a basic level of alphabetization for young people in underdeveloped countries before 2030, the NUDES architectural firm has created a project designed for all those countries where analphabetism is the norm. It is called Bookworm Pavilion and it is a modular library that measures almost 40 meters long and 12 meters wide.
The pavilion has two parallel bookcases that, through a sinuous shape reminiscent of the helical one, create spaces of shadow, higher points where the shelves are located and lower points reused as seats and small amphitheaters, where to hold readings and meetings.
The aim was to make reading a fun and exciting activity in the eyes of children, through the place where it is practiced.
At the moment the Bookworm Pavilion is located outside, in the courtyards of the CSMVS museum in Mumbai, but its shape manages to welcome and embrace readers, young and old, making them feel in a closed, safe place.
The modular nature of the library designed by the NUDES architects allows easy transportation, in fact at the end of December the Bookworm Pavilion will move from Mumbai to other parts of India and who knows, maybe even to other countries.
