Brand consultant, designer, collector and “Sportswear hero” Gary Aspden, has created a collection for adidas SPEZIAL, for this Spring/Summer 2020, inspired by the British Soul aesthetic.

There is a direct link between the Northern Soul phenomenon of the 1970s, the first House/Jazz mergers of the 1980s and the Acid Jazz of the 1990s. They all left an imprint and an indestructible legacy. The 1970s saw London’s “Soul boys” define their own style, while northern working class youngsters were looking for soul records to dance to in the clubs and dancehalls of Wigan and Blackpool. These young men and women created their own interpretation of American soul music and laid the foundations of the style for decades to come.
Spezial creates and re-elaborates premium editions of adidas Originals products that come directly from the giant archive of the German brand, and in this case has brought its own contemporary vision of that particular historical/musical context.
For this SS20 adidas SPEZIAL presents: two outerwear, the Standish Anorak “Ash Blue” and the Holbeck Jacket “Spice Yellow”, a Newsam long sleeve polo shirt, a tracksuite (the Pleckgate), a Heswall short, a pair of T-shirts and four different sneakers, the Ashhurst SPZ, Lotherton SPZL, the Training 76 SPZL and the Zurro SPZL.
There is no shortage of accessories including a towel, a pair of socks and a bucket hat.
The adidas Spezial SS20 collection is available on the adidas webstore.
