Diggin’ in the Frames at the Bronx Documentary Center is not just an exhibition, and not even just a book: it is the culmination — and at the same time a new beginning — of a platform born as an independent zine that quickly became a true community space. Since 2022, MyEyeGotLazy has been telling the story of photography as a collective gesture, as exchange, as an opportunity to step away from the screen and return to sharing images in a physical, intentional, authentic way.

On view until December 14, Diggin’ in the Frames traces this evolution through a selection of past issues, archival materials, exhibition images, and collaborations that have shaped the identity of the project. It’s a journey that speaks to organic growth, to connections born through print, and to that shared creativity that often gets lost in the rhythm of digital feeds.

What MyEyeGotLazy has built in such a short time is an extended community of photographers, emerging and established, who find in physical space — in limited-edition publications, on gallery walls, in public events — a different way of being seen and heard. Diggin’ in the Frames puts exactly this at the center: photography as a living practice, made of gestures, encounters, dialogues, and belonging.

This project, founded overseas by Francisco Vasquez and Jean-Andre Antoine, asserts the power of print, of paper, of shared experience. Every image on display is an invitation to slow down, to look more closely, to recognize the value of the physical dimension of photography. A great example of what can be done with this format.

The exhibition — made possible thanks to the support of the New York State Council on the Arts, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and a wide network of foundations — celebrates not only those who helped build MyEyeGotLazy, but also the ecosystem that continues to sustain it. Because, as the title suggests, digging in the frames also means digging into the relationships that make a collective project possible.
