International porn star and dyslexic poet, it is with this short bio that Cb Hoyo, the artist originally from Cuba, presents himself to his audience on Instagram, one of the platforms that launched him in the contemporary art market.
Irony, color, satire, these are the characteristics that distinguish Hoyo’s art that, since the beginning of his career, has been considered by Artnet one of the 10 most relevant emerging international artists.

With a self-taught studio, Warhol, Basquiat, Liechtenstein, Haring, Banksy as a source of inspiration and a past as a chef, the young artist, now based in Europe, enjoys and subverts the rules of art by questioning its authenticity and economic value, one of the themes he explores most is, in fact, the concept of “fake”.

It is “Fakes“, in fact, the most successful series to date, in which he revisits with irony and simple messages some of the works of major contemporary artists.
Many of these, realized with different painting techniques and on the most varied surfaces, are part of private and public collections all over the world.

“My works are a reflection on modern society, surrounded by fiction and characterized by the value assigned to things, news or works, precisely, fake. Today it is difficult to distinguish what is fake from what is true, through my works I want to invite people to make this reflection” – said Cb Hoyo to Forbes in April 2018, on the occasion of Milan Art Week and his first solo exhibition in Italy.

Another series, in continuous evolution and perhaps even more famous than “Fakes” is certainly “Corny Quotes“.
On Instagram it is impossible not to have seen one, they are everywhere and above all they deal with the most disparate and most discussed themes of the moment.
First of all the artworks dedicated to the health emergency that has affected the world from many points of view and that has locked us in the house, where Cb Hoyo has continued tirelessly to give substance to his creativity.

Another work that he recently published on his Instagram profile is in fact part of the “Picnic” series that debuted in 2020 and is part of a larger project in which the artist’s followers are also involved.

Needless to say, Cb Hoyo and his art divide the critics, but his response, although borrowed, was not long overdue and is clear, direct and ironic like everything else he works on.
