The Future Perfect Gallery in New York is hosting until June 30th the new collection designed by Chris Wolston, an American designer who lives between Brooklyn and MedellÃn. The Flower Power Collection spans across the entire gallery, signaling a new direction for the designer.
All the seats in the Flower Power Collection are made of terracotta and are inspired, in both abstract and non-abstract ways, by plants, flowers, and wild fruits from his garden in MedellÃn. This theme recalls the term coined by Allen Ginsberg in 1965 when Flower Power was born, referring to the way peace, love, and unity can be the foundation for peace.
In his collection, Wolston also wants to acknowledge the importance of raw materials and craftsmanship by continuing to explore the relationship between humans and nature. The terracotta is locally sourced from a deposit in Bogotá, and the flowers come from the local market of La Placita de Flórez.
Terracotta becomes the ideal raw material for recreating seats and lamps with details waiting to be discovered, blending abstract and lifelike inspirations.
