Coffee is not just a simple beverage. It is a ritual, a childhood memory, the scent of home, grandma’s kitchen, an afternoon with friends, the end of a Christmas lunch, a stop at the Autogrill. And after reading the story of Gaggia, we can say that coffee is also about design.
Gaggia—a leading company in the world of coffee machines—has always been aware that coffee, especially in Italy, is inextricably linked to the bar experience. Over the years, this has led to the creation of iconic machines capable of delivering an increasingly refined and personalized experience. Among the names that have turned coffee into an art, Gaggia stands out as one of the companies that has most influenced the world of coffee machines, making design and innovation its fundamental pillars.

Founded in 1938 by Achille Gaggia, the company was born from an intuition that forever changed the way coffee is prepared: the invention of the lever espresso machine. This patent, filed in 1938 and followed by a second one in 1947, led to a series of machines that transformed coffee from a bar-exclusive drink into a high-quality home experience. The first espresso machine model, the Tipo Classica, launched in 1948, was a true revolution—not only for its functionality but also for its design. With its elegant levers and unmistakable logo, it became a symbol of quality and innovation.

Gaggia’s true strength lies in its continuous evolution in design, seamlessly blending aesthetics and functionality. In the 1950s, the company introduced Gilda, the first fully hand-crafted home coffee machine. In the 1970s, with the launch of Baby Gaggia, the brand took another step forward, bringing espresso into Italian homes in a more compact and accessible version. In the 1990s, Gaggia began producing automatic machines that found their place in homes and offices, always maintaining a meticulous focus on design and user experience.
The year 2025 marks the launch of the new Gaggia Classic GT, a machine that perfectly embodies the brand’s DNA. The Classic GT is designed for those who want to bring a tailor-made coffee experience into their homes, offering cutting-edge performance and a modern design that remains deeply rooted in tradition. As a Gaggia spokesperson revealed, the Classic GT project was developed in collaboration with designer Fabio Rezzonico, who worked closely with the company to create a product that is not only functional but also aesthetically refined. The result is a machine with elegant lines that fits perfectly into any home environment and, thanks to its interactive features, allows users to experience the espresso ritual in a fully customizable way.

Innovation and design have always been at the heart of Gaggia’s philosophy, and Milan Design Week 2025 presents a unique opportunity to celebrate this connection. The Gaggia Open House installation, part of the Porta Venezia Design District event circuit, is designed to explore the brand’s tradition and evolution, highlighting the bond between coffee and design culture. As the company spokesperson emphasized, MDW25 represents a chance to present the brand to an attentive and curious international audience, showcasing not only the new Gaggia Classic GT but also the company’s identity in a genuine and unfiltered way. This will be achieved through a packed schedule of meetings, masterclasses, and talks.
Over the years, Gaggia has successfully transformed its coffee machines into true icons, where functionality perfectly blends with aesthetics.
