Colin Roberts is an artist based in Los Angeles who started creating perspex and plexiglass pillows starting in 2008. Always interested in the search for new materials, the artist has seen in the use of pillow a source of inspiration, so much so as to create “magic” themed sculptures that refract light. Colin tells:

“I was inspired to use the pillow shape because it’s an object that is so common, yet as humans, we all have a special relationship to, without realizing it. A pillow is something every human can recognize and long for when needing rest. It represents comfort, rest, and sleep for our mind, body, and soul”.

Someone has likened his works to the mirrored disco ball, capable of projecting light into the surrounding space. The pillow seems to be one of the most requested and desired objects in our time, as it is mentally associated with the idea of rest, which is often insufficient due to a frenetic lifestyle. The artist’s work is currently on display in the group exhibition Divided Brain at LAVA Projects in Los Angeles and will be visible until December 16, 2018.
