We know by now, masks are essential, one of the weapons with which to fight this virus. Unfortunately, however, most of these products are composed of layers of plastic and are specifically designed to be disposable. Being medical waste, they are not recycled through conventional facilities thus ending up incinerated or in outdoor landfills, leading to toxic fumes and contributing to climate change.
Just to highlight this problem Tobia Zambotti decided to create “COUCH-19”, a pouf made only with used masks.

Italy but not only the whole world is called to face this problem since plastic is one of the main enemies of the environment.
So the Italian designer has decided first of all to recover all the masks scattered on the ground and around medical facilities and so on.
Then he meticulously disinfected them all with ozone and stored them safely. Tobia Zambotti collected only the light blue surgical masks, a non-random choice.
In fact, once assembled “COUCH-19” recalls the aesthetics of an iceberg: one of the most iconic symbols of global warming. A creative but at the same time quite effective way to highlight the problem we all need to pay attention to.
