Last July 31, at the Suzhou International Expo Center, inaugurated the ninth edition of the Suzhou Cultural & Creative Cultural Industry Expo and among the works and installations presented, one, in particular, has made people talk about itself.
Face to Face, this is the name of the installation created by Convergent Architecture Studio (CAS) for the social isolation pavilion, a pavilion entirely dedicated to the analysis and exploration of the consequences of quarantine.
At the heart of the Convergent Architecture Studio’s research is the object that has become a true symbol both of the battle against the pandemic and of what each of us can do to help improve the situation: the mask.
Face to Face presents itself as a space formed by 80 rows of tents made with a total of 117,539 masks where you can enter to discover that space has been created inside it. Once immersed in the work, the thousands of masks will dampen both light and sound, evoking the feeling of isolation that we all felt during the quarantine.
The goal of the installation is to make people think about the importance of the masks and visually demonstrate that maybe one mask alone can’t make a difference, but many can change the course of the pandemic.
