The lookout houses by Croxatto and Opazo Architects

In Matanzas, a coastal village famous for its beach in the O’Higgins region of Chile, Croxatto and Opazo Architects has designed small houses that resemble lookouts overlooking the sea.
The studio, founded in 2010 by architects Felipe Croxatto Viviani and Nicolas Opazo Marchetti, has always worked to meet the demands of clients through proposals that respect the environment. In this case, we can afford to say that they have succeeded perfectly.

The two cabins “La Loica” and “La Tagua” – for two different customers – respectively 24 and 34 square meters, have similar characteristics starting from the development of space. The interiors, in fact, are developed vertically, making the houses resemble small watchtowers.

Both cabins were built on the rocky slope leading to the beach, which is why the entire structure rests on platforms formed by wooden pillars. Above them, the houses were built as small cubes.

The lower floor was intended for the living area, with kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom, while on the upper floor, which is accessed through an internal staircase, there is the bedroom.

There are two main features of the project by Croxatto and Opazo Architects. “La Loica” and “La Tagua” are almost entirely built of wood, a material readily available in the Matanzas area, which has been treated and impregnated to make it resistant to marine corrosion. We find the same wood inside, a choice that makes the final result much more harmonious and allows the structures to blend with the landscape. Moreover, a fundamental part of the houses is the large windows from which you can always enjoy a 360° view of the ocean.
