Needless to say, the Colombian illustrator Daniel Liévano is conceptual and surreal, instead what one should focus on is his narrative ability. This skill, which has a lot to do with sensitivity, is able to support textual stories perfectly. This is why Liévano quickly conquered the publishing world. First major publications such as The New Yorker, The Economist, The Sunday Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and El Espectador, then also publishing houses. Recently, in fact, The Folio Society asked him to illustrate the new editions of Haruki Murakami’s books. In addition to commissions, Daniel also does freelance projects. One example is his first comic book – entirely experimental – entitled The Mountain of Reality, listed among the best books published in Colombia, according to Arcadia magazine. More recent is his graphic novel Gravity and a Few Other Substances, a ‘book of signs’ that builds an infinite bridge between words and images – awarded a gold medal in the book category by the Society of Illustrators of New York.
