Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri had chosen Athens as the location to showcase her Cruise 2022 collection, inspired by ancient Greek art. The key color of the collection is the blue of the Aegean Sea and among the most interesting pieces of the Cruise are the silk scarves. On the scarves there are motifs such as “Dior around the world” inspired by the theme of travel, “Toile de Jouy” and “D-Millefiori”, in which are stylized bas-reliefs present on the facade of number 30 Avenue Montaigne, Dior’s headquarters in Paris.
Dior in these days presented some shots that show the scarves wrapping and dressing Greek scarves, a project realized in collaboration with the French artist Brigitte Niedermair. Dior’s silk and colors cover and follow the shapes of some key subjects of classical art. Aphrodite, heads of Caryatids and Apollo, a Doriphorus and the elegance of Julio-Claudian princesses. The marbles and plaster casts chosen by Dior all belong to the Galerie Chenel, a Paris gallery specializing in ancient statues.
The subjects of the illustrations are inspired by tarot cards, while the colors, golden, blue or natural, are illuminated by the sheen of silk. A timeless elegance, which transports us into a temple, more than 2000 years away from us.
