Matteo Garrone, one of the most commanding and innovative Italian directors is working on a new film entitled Dogman. The movie’s plot is about an actual Italian crime story that struck the Roman society in the 1980’s. It’s the chronicle of Pietro de Negri, called “er canaro” (the dogman), who tortured and killed Giancarlo Ricci, an infamous killer who lived in Rome’s Magliana district.

This is not the first time we see the Italian director relating about newspaper chronicles, in fact, Garrone’s approach has always focused on society, crime in particular as we have already seen in Primo Amore e L’imbalsamatore. Another important distinctive trait that puts him apart from most of his colleagues is his direction style: he in fact always prefers the realist approach with extensive use of hand cameras, live recorded audio and non-professional actors (as most of Gomorra’s cast).
