Art and style come together in the Dr. Martens x Basquiat collection

Giulia Guido

Few have influenced their generation and those that came after as much as Jean-Michel Basquiat. An artist, poet and musician, Basquiat quickly became one of the most recognised creatives of 1980s New York and today, 33 years after his death, he is still a symbol and reference point for thousands of people in the art world and beyond.
In fact, it is precisely for this reason that the second collaboration between Dr. Martens and the renowned Artestar agency has led to the creation of the Dr. Martens x Basquiat collection.

The world’s most famous boot brand has provided two of its iconic models and a backpack that have become the canvases on which two masterpieces by the New York artist have been reproduced.

The 1461 shoe features the famous dinosaur from 1984’s “Pez Dispenser” printed on both the smooth leather upper and lining.
The original 1460 amphibian and the backpack were dedicated to “Untitled” (1982).
In addition, all three pieces in the collection feature the famous three-pointed crown that has become a signature of the artist.

The Dr. Martens x Basquiat collection will be available from 3 July on and from selected partners.
