Al Mefer is a very interesting artist, already known for the Alien Architectures series, this time his project is set in rural Iceland and it’s characterized by his typical surreal editings. The world is tinged with red, the hills are covered with cotton candy and the sheep have a pink cloak, nature is the excuse to talk about something absolutely new. The cluster moss on the boulders, the waterfalls and other landscape elements classified as blurred, as if we were inside a dream.

The Dreamscapes of Iceland project was made when he traveled around the country with some friends photographing natural beauties such as waterfalls, cliffs and the coast of Skógafoss and the glacial lake of Jökulsárlón.

“Iceland has been photographed a million times. I wanted to picture it in a way that it’d feel new yet as oneiric in the images as it is to see it live. Color affects us emotionally and I often focus my attention on it as a tool to rewrite reality. Although some of Mefer’s photographs include people, a stillness is still captured in each photograph. There’s a common trait among my projects to feel that the landscapes are mysterious and unexplored, they’re lonely even if populated.”
