Alien Architectures is an interesting project by Al Mefer, Spanish neuroscientist and photographer, who captures the architecture of Benidorm to make it seem like part of an alien landscape: the series includes nine pictures of colorful endless structures, representing perhaps the nine planets of the solar system.
The photographs are post produced to create the illusion of buildings-spaceships in the colored sky. Bubble balconies as human hives, gradient backgrounds, and the “cosmic” atmosphere bring the viewer into a particular mood of mystery and tension, that reminds us to Blade Runner.
In addition, the proposed vision isn’t just a kind of aesthetic: through the photography, Al Mefer wants to explain his personal point of view about the environmental and social condition of life on Earth; he tries to imagine what urban spaces will look like once the conditions of our planet become uninhabitable for humanity.
