A constant and continuous tension exists between hiding and showing, between nudity and modesty, between nudity and fashion, between body and clothes. It has been so for centuries but this time has not been enough to dissolve this intrinsic bond.
At the Fashion Museum of Hasselt (Modemuseum Hasselt) is currently underway DressUndress, an exhibition that explores the very strong tension that exists between the body, nudity and fashion in a period in which, after the two-year pandemic in which we basically got used to homewear, on catwalks around the world we returned to see bodies at the center of the aesthetic narrative of fashion houses.Â
Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Azzedine Alaïa, Rei Kawakubo, Martin Margiela, Miuccia Prada and many other designers will be the stars accompanying patrons on this unique and exciting journey.
A look that crosses past, present and future in which visitors are invited to reflect on extremely current issues that stir public opinion. The guest curator Murielle Scherre aims to interpret and contextualize all the concepts that revolve around the body and its nudity, asking specific questions: What role does Gen Z play, with its body positivity and its progressive views on gender and sexuality? To what extent does the fashion revival of the 1990s and early 2000s explain the unmistakable impulse of contemporary designers to expose the body? What was once considered taboo but is now accepted and why?
The DressUndress exhibition will be open to the public until November 20, at the Hasselt Fashion Museum in Belgium. If I were you I wouldn’t miss it.Â
