In the last few days, we’ve been reading Dries Van Noten‘s name more often than usual because of the shirt worn by LeBron James at SoFi Stadium during the LVI Super Bowl, won by the Los Angeles Rams against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Described by the New York Times as “one of the most cerebral designers”, Van Noten is also known for his patronage through his Los Angeles art gallery Little House, where today he opens a stunning exhibition dedicated to Indian-born but London-based artist, Raqib Shaw.
Shaw’s imagery is marked by opulent, intricate paintings depicting imaginary paradises embellished with jewels, enamels and extremely vibrant colors.
His paintings, as well as his sculptures, draw from multiple sources: from mythology to religion, from poetry to literature, from textiles to the decorative arts of both Eastern and Western traditions, all carefully blended by the artist’s vivid imagination.

At the center of the exhibition “Tales from an Urban Garden”, presented by Dries Van Noten and curator Jeffrey Deitch as part of a collaboration with White Cube gallery, are Shaw’s paintings housed in the Little House space in Los Angeles. This is the first exhibition dedicated to the artist in the California city.
The exhibition will be open to the public through March 26, and visitors will also find a book about the show, created by Shaw himself, as part of the experience that has the ultimate goal of transporting patrons directly into the garden of his London studio.
