Montreal-based photographer and visual artist Etienne Dufresne has recently published a new series called “Easy Street” in which images taken within the urban context of everyday life are translated in kitsch, extravagant and poetic language.

“By superimposing my street photos with royalty-free images, I create ambiguous and surreal scenes. This project is about an exodus from the studio and a return to wandering and intuition”.

In other words: experimentation, contamination and instinct. The time has come for photography to break down the gender barriers to which it has always been relegated and become something new, fresh and of great visual impact. It is not only a philosophical approach but also a technical one; the artist has revealed that he has immortalized these urban landscapes with his mobile phone, to leave behind heavy and cumbersome devices.

In fact, this series was created during occasional walks in the Petite-Patrie district of Montreal, which becomes the pretext for creating surreal images, a safe haven from monotony.
