The link between Fausto Serafini and photography began 10 years ago, from the need to look for something that would fully represent the identity and spirit of the artist. The nightlife he lived in the club he managed at the time brought stress, which he vented on Sundays in the mountains or countryside, taking photos that created a bubble where he did not feel the weight of everyday life.
It was a colleague who provided the first basis for approaching the art of photography, and he began a self-taught journey, starting with a background in music and film cultivated over the years. Fausto Serafini simply began to represent reality, leaving photos and sets untouched, for a style that the artist defines as “real and punk”.

The obsession with realism made it necessary from the outset to establish a relationship of trust, which involved spending time with the subjects to be photographed. Serafini then started to define a well-codified method, which is very important for the final result and often involves hardly shooting on the first day. The words create a bond between photographer and subject, in what the artist defines as “cohabitations”, which have become longer and longer, for which he always provides only the outward ticket, to concentrate on the work and then say goodbye.
“I particularly love this way of working because it also allows you to create very strong human connections (which are in short supply lately), with half of the subjects you often hear from each other and remain friends and confide in each other. Forming relationships has made me change my perspective on what I look for in an image”, Serafini tells Collater.al.

It is the desire to get as much as possible out of as few subjects as possible that makes the photographer’s research so solid. This is why he is now trying to work with a reduced number of muses, one of whom is his partner Francesca, the protagonist of this photographic series, the result of their first cohabitation, which was followed by a second and a third, still in progress.
