Kirsten Beets is an artist born in Cape Town, capital of South Africa, and her illustrations are mainly focused on the contradictory relationship between man and nature.

Those painted by Beets are in fact illusory spaces because they are built by man with a definite purpose. Botanical gardens, geometric pools and other artificial ecosystems, compared to the artist to mirages, are preserved in the urban environment as natural spaces but actually aimed at the free time of man.

Kirsten Beets’s illustrations, exploring the theme of illusion, thus glorify the contradiction between the hot and dry city of Cape Town during the months of drought and the green kingdoms ad hoc by humans, which modifies and shape the environment for recreational purpose.
