Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, said the English writer Charles Caleb Colton and this is perhaps the reason why dozens and dozens of artists have ventured into reproductions of the greatest masterpieces of art.
Imitating, giving a personal reading to a work means paying homage to it and its author. In fact, it is also thanks to this trend that works by Da Vinci, Van Gogh and many others have continued to acquire value and have become immortal.
Murat Yıldırırım, an Istanbul-based digital artist, also wanted to share his unique vision of these masterpieces with his audience. Thus was born the Furry Artworks project, in which some of the most famous works were digitally reproduced, replacing color with soft colored fur.
Starry Night by Van Gogh, The Scream by Munch, Impression, Sunrise by Monet, The Mona Lisa, The Persistence of Memory by Dali and The Girl with the Pearl Earring by Vermeer are the masterpieces that Murat Yıldırım confronted, transforming every single brushstroke, every nuance into tufts of fur. The final result of Furry Artworks surprises and attracts us, we would certainly like a copy hanging in our living room.
