Head of the Lion, a photographic project by Claudio Majorana
Head of the Lion is a photographic book by Sicilian photographer Claudio Majorana, who talks about the adolescence in skate of nine boys.
Claudio Majorana is a Sicilian photographer, born in 1986. His passion for photography was born during the years of high school when he began to photograph his friends on skateboard and everything that goes around the street world. The artistic research focuses on adolescents living in the suburbs and analyzes their social and behavioral aspects.
The photographic book Head of the Lion is a project that tells teenagers in relation to different housing contexts, in particular, tells the stories from 2011 of Giancarlo, Ciccio, Mario, Gabriele, Lemuel, Peppe, Giosuè, Samuel and Shanti, a group of skateboarders who grew up in Misterbianco, a small town on the outskirts of Catania. The shots document six years of skate, the first loves, and life in Catania. The title chosen by Claudio is not accidental since it is the name of the cliff A Testa ro Liuni.
“Just throw yourself forward to avoid the protruding rocks. But not too much or you could end up against the rocks on the other side of the cliff. Sometimes during the low tide it happens to touch the bottom with the feet. But nothing can happen to you, trust me “.
For the nine protagonists, the leap into the void is both a ritual and a metaphor of transition to adulthood: the lava pollen becomes the test to be overcome in order to feel alive and free.
