Home MuralFest, creativity in lockdown

Almost all the artists had all their projects canceled because of the period we are living in, but some of them didn’t give up.
So Jacoba Niepoort and Axel Void curated Home MuralFest, a collective initiative that inspired 67 quarantined artists around the world to paint their latest works of art on their homes and gardens.

An idea born from the lockdown that forced us to stay at home, but it didn’t stop the creativity of many artists. In fact, Jacoba Niepoort said: “When the quarantine hit, I wanted to use the spaces we were in to create individual parallel works, being locked down offered the opportunity to come together in new ways”.

Each of them worked simultaneously throughout April to create pieces ranging from monochrome inked birds on windows to vibrant geometric expanses.

67 artists have contributed to make this festival unique with their creations. By taking art out of the usual places and museums, Home MuralFest subverts the way viewers typically relate to these works. Only artists inside their homes have the chance to see each work, then technology and social media do the rest.
