This special series represents a real innovation for the world of knitwear: inspired by the small shells we find when walking on the beach, the weave is composed of small three-dimensional fabric swirls that, once expanded, create a checkered texture thanks to the innovative processing technique called links stitch.
When the garments of the Wool Shell Knit series – composed of a combination of wool and nylon – are worn, the fabric swirls expand producing a play of light and shadow within the weave that remains soft and light.

See them as a group of seashells, winning up in a delicate formation. touch them, and feel the soft knit texture, opening and closing, as your fingers trace the ups and downs. Wear them, as if enveloped by seashells to experience the garments animated with every move.

To launch the Wool Shell Knit Miyake commissioned designer Tomohiro Okazaki to create a two 2-minute stop motion video that you can watch below.

The animation in the video is made by taking out the movement from the composition and physical characteristics of the wool shell knit. Starting with the details of the structure of the clothes that swirl like a shell, the image moves so that you can experience the texture and design“, said Okazaki.
