Kendrick Lamar has written and performed the soundtrack for The Button, a short film announcing the presentation of Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024. The black and white short film features Margaret Qualley, the ambassador of the French fashion house and star of Drive-Away Dolls, set to be released this year. Additionally, it includes appearances by longtime Chanel friend of the House Naomi Campbell and House ambassador Anna Mouglalis.

The collaboration between Lamar and Chanel may seem unexpected, but there were hints leading up to it. The song accompanying Qualley as she makes her way to Rue Cambon in the short film has not been named yet. However, as mentioned earlier, Kendrick Lamar is the artist behind it. The video, written and directed by Dave Free—Lamar’s partner in pgLang, a kind of “service company”—represents a true partnership between the French fashion house and the joint venture of the two artists. Discussions about this collaboration had already surfaced a few months ago when Free posted on his Instagram profile with the caption «cc language,» piquing our curiosity.
