In the dense forest of the Loire region in France, exactly near Montlouis-sur-Loire, a small village between Amboise and Tours, you may come across a strange wooden structure at some point. It is Le Château Ambulant, a project born in 2017 on the occasion of the Festival de la Forêt et du Bois and signed by the architecture and design studios Local and Suphasidh.
The challenge the architects faced for this project was to create a house built entirely of wood, and they fully succeeded.

Local wood was used for Le Château Ambulant, some elements being prepared in a sawmill a few kilometres from the chosen site, while others were prepared directly on site. Once all the pieces were ready, the house was built entirely on site.
Inside, the house measures approximately 42 square metres divided into two floors. One very important aspect was to maintain a link with the surrounding nature, which is why instead of normal windows we chose to create a kind of slit along all the outer walls. This gives the illusion of being in the open air, even if you are inside, and makes maximum use of natural light.
